Candle Care & Safety Guide

A ShicoByDee candle is a piece of art, hand-poured with love to bring warmth and beautiful fragrance into your life. To ensure you get the most stunning glow and longest life from your candle, a little care goes a long way.Following these simple tips will help you enjoy every moment of light and tranquility safely.

Your First Burn is the Most Important

The first time you light your candle, you are setting its "memory."

  • Let it Burn: Allow the wax to melt all the way to the outer edges of the jar. This can take 2-4 hours, so be patient!
  • Prevent Tunneling: Completing this step will prevent the candle from "tunneling" (burning straight down the middle), ensuring you get to use all the wax and enjoy its fragrance to the fullest.

General Care for the Perfect Glow

For every burn after the first, follow these key steps:

  • Trim Your Wick Before Every Use. Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch (6mm). A trimmed wick creates a cleaner, brighter burn and prevents soot or overly large flames. You can use a wick trimmer or nail clippers.
  • Don't Burn for Too Long. For the best performance and safety, do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Keep It Clean. Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, and any other debris. A clean candle is a happy candle!

Safety First, Always

Your safety is our top priority. Please follow these essential rules to prevent fire and injury.

  • Never Leave a Burning Candle Unattended. Always extinguish a candle before leaving a room or going to sleep.
  • Keep Away from Flammable Objects. Place your candle away from curtains, books, bedding, and anything else that could catch fire.
  • Keep Out of Reach of Children and Pets. Curious paws and little hands can easily knock over a candle.
  • Burn on a Stable, Heat-Resistant Surface. This prevents heat damage to your furniture and avoids accidental spills.
  • Avoid Drafty Areas. Drafts can cause an uneven burn and present a potential fire hazard.
  • Extinguish with Care. Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. This is the safest method and prevents hot wax from splattering.

Knowing When to Say Goodbye

Every good story has an ending, and your candle is no different.

For your safety, please stop using your candle when only 1/2 inch (1.5cm) of wax remains at the bottom of the jar. Burning a candle all the way down can cause the glass jar to overheat and crack.

Pro Tip: Once you've enjoyed your candle, you can clean out the remaining wax and reuse your beautiful jar! It's perfect for storing makeup brushes, pens, or even as a small planter for a succulent.
